Clinton/DeWitt County

Lincoln played an important role in the early development of Clinton, beginning in 1839 as a young lawyer with the 8th Judicial Circuit until he became the 16th President of the United States. Be sure to plan a visit to the mid-Victorian mansion that was home to Lincoln’s Clinton law partner, the Honorable C.H. Moore. Afterwards stop by the Warner Library, where you’ll find some of the oldest books and manuscripts in the county – from Moore’s personal collection. The library also features an exhibit that tells the story of Lincoln’s influence in DeWitt County. Just down the road is the historic Woodlawn Cemetery, where many of the area’s oldest citizens are buried and where local soldiers who fell during the Civil War are commemorated.

Planning an early Autumn trip? Each September, thousands of people descend on Clinton for the annual Apple & Pork Festival, with lots of entertainment, great food, and more.
