Looking for Lincoln at the Illinois State Fair


Each year, Looking for Lincoln brings history to life on the front lawn of the Illinois Building near the main gate during the Illinois State Fair. Visitors to the area have an opportunity to interact with Abraham Lincoln, participate in period games, visit with Civil War and living history re-enactors, build with Lincoln Logs, watch period demonstrations, hear period music and learn about all the sites and activities in the National Heritage Area to visit.

2019 Looking for Lincoln Area Schedule
August 9-18, 2019 (10 am to 4 pm) 
Daily: Visit with President Lincoln, build with Lincoln logs, watch blacksmithing demonstrations, participate in a scavenger hunt, and discover all the communities in the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area.

Special Highlights
  • Friday, August 9: Hear the Nauvoo Band at 11 am and 1 pm, play period games and make rope with Nauvoo on the Road.  
  • Saturday, August 10: Musician Chris Vallillo at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.  Play period games and make rope with Nauvoo on the Road.  Visit with members of the 10th Illinois Cavalry and test your knowledge of Abraham Lincoln and Route 66 with trivia games at the McLean County Museum of History table.
  • Sunday, August 11: Listen to the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band at Noon and 2 pm. Visit with Union soldiers from the 6th Illinois Company C, view a reproduction of a Civil War cannon and learn about medical practices during the Civil War.   
  • Monday, August 12: Watch blacksmith demonstrations, get a photo with the Lincoln themed 'Circuit Rider' motorcycle and learn about medical practices during the Civil War.
  • Friday, August 16: Watch blacksmithing and broom making demonstrations. Visit with a member of the Soldiers Aid Society and find out how women on the homefront support the Civil War troops. 
  • Saturday, August 17: Watch blacksmithing, broom making, and rail splitting demonstrations. Musician Chris Vallillo will play at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Test your knowledge of Abraham Lincoln and Route 66 with trivia games at the McLean County Museum of History table.
